So instead of moving this summer, or even spending the summer traveling like we normally do - we (and when I say "we" I mean "I") get to spend the entire summer here in town (Tyler is currently gone on high adventure - and he and the kids will be going to his parents' mission homecoming, I believe). So, this sticking around thing is not in celebration of breaking my four-year mark, that's just those silly rules about not traveling past 36 weeks (and again - I want to know WHY. There are hospitals all over the country ). I'm 36 weeks now - could I pass for less if I really wanted to go somewhere? I dunno. I guess I won't try. I'll just embrace summer in Colorado :)
The embracing of summer means lots and lots of time at the pool. Liza finally was convinced (by her pushy mother) to try the slide. And, since her first trip down yesterday, she's literally spent HOURS repeating the fun. See - sometimes I know what I'm talking about.

(To the Liza of the future who will be old enough to be embarrassed: I apologize. On your video of riding the slide, I wasn't paying full attention at the end - so totally missed the whole swim-your-head-into-the-wall. The good news is that I don't have video of me laughing (since I didn't laugh since I didn't see it), but that bad news is that if it hurt (which it probably did), I was probably not as sympathetic as I could've been. Now that I've seen the replay, sorry, babe. And sorry I didn't edit it out before other blog-checkers see it too and have a small giggle at your expense.)
Landon, who was more interested in the slide than Liza, and was also a good motivating force in getting her to try it out - met the height requirement by a few inches, and the swimming requirement (parent discretion) so is all too happy to join Liza. The only bummer (pun intended), is that he can't do the "secret trick" taught to Liza by her grandmother. That is, give yourself a wedgie before heading down, and you'll go much faster. When I glanced up to see Liza with a friend, who was also sporting a wedgie while she waited in line, I realized that Liza had shared her secret. And it really does work. The video I have is from yesterday - but I certainly should've got newer, faster video today :)
While we were taking a break from the slide and swimming in the regular part of the pool, Landon told me, "See - you're not a mom." I replied, "If I'm not a mom - what am I?" He said, "A big KID!" Of course, this is the same boy who told me this morning, after day #2 of me NOT washing the shirt he just wore the previous day so he can wear it two days in a row "MOM! You forgot to wash my shirt! I need to 'mind you to wash my shirt tomorrow. Can you put that in your head? 'I need to wash Landon's shirt.' Can you, Mom?"
See what fun summer brings?
P.S. The videos are not uploading properly so perhaps my apology shouldn't be to Liza - but to all who would like to see video. Any helpful hints? I believe I met all the system requirements and data size rules and all that jazz so I don't know. Weird.
love the (it's about time!) update! isn't a summer spent at a pool just the best thing ever?? blake and i are enjoying the same things!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like you some good little swimmers on your hands! We need to get Nyah signed up for swimming because she loves the water. I loved the videos - too fun. The head bump does look a little painful though...
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying your summer! Hope everything continues to go well with your pregnancy. Can't wait to see Tyler and the kids!
