You know the sound; it's familiar to summer. A tinkling, merry little sound, whose volume changes as its source of origin draws nearer. Sometimes the sound comes and goes as it circles through the neighborhood. But what I have found many parents missed the boat on, is the NAME of this sound. Just ask my kids. They'll tell you:
Children: "It's the MUSIC truck!"
Mother: "And what does the music truck do?"
Children: "It drives through the neighborhood playing music for all the people to hear!"
Mother: "Very good."
Lest you think Liza is not as sharp a tack as other 5-year old children, she HAS figured it out by now. But, here's the best part: she's in on the secret. So now, she says louder than the rest of us, "Hey- it's the music truck!" and includes a sly little smile to her loving mother.
more for another post: my parents' list of "truths" that we were fed from a very early age. I'll just mention an army tank for now. . .
AWESOME!! I really struggle in the creativity department when it comes to this aspect of parenting...guess I'll just pick up the phone in my minutes of need and ask you!
ReplyDeletegreat idea!!! the music truck. hilarious and perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love it "Fib #203".
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to hear some of the M&N "truths"!!
We already know what that truck does because we said yes one time! BUT, we don't say yes anymore. If they really want ice cream then they can use their own money. They can add the one more want to the ever growing list of things they want to save their money for. Lexi's most persistent want... and iPod. We'll see how long she can save her money!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Abigail has been asking a lot about ice cream trucks lately. She must have seen one on TV or something. Until reading your post I had begun to wonder if "music trucks" were still in operation--I haven't seen one in years! Come to think of it though, I guess I probably haven't lived in the right kind of neighborhood in awhile.
ReplyDeleteIf only the "music truck" didn't play such irritating music.
ReplyDeleteThat is just too funny! Why didn't someone tell me about this earlier - then my boys would have never known! Here in Nebraska, they call the truck The Ding-ding man. Weird, huh?
