Three weeks ago, I couldn't have even told you what Mutton Bustin' was - but once the kids saw the signs at the rec centers, Liza had a goal: ride a sheep. Every Monday and Wednesday we'd walk out of swimming lessons and pass the signs for the Highlands Ranch Rodeo in the Ranch. She said she wanted to do the Mutton Bustin'. Tyler was wise enough to suggest that she watch a few clips on YouTube of other kids doing it - and she was still determined.
So, we got up early this Saturday morning to get our place in line, and this is what we got (I apologize for my loud cheering - it was pretty exciting):
This ride placed her in the Top 10, and gave her a chance to ride again during the actual rodeo (the prelims were before the rodeo began). She ended up with her pants full of dirt, and the desire to be done mutton bustin' until she's "seven." So, she bypassed her second ride, but still walked away with her trophy and some fun memories.
Nice. That sheep took off like a jet, so Liza pretty much looks like a puff of smoke on the horizon in about 2 seconds flat. Fun for her, and wise of you to video tape that.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize sheep were that fast! What a great memory- I love Landon's "No!" No dirt in his pants!
ReplyDeleteThat was the most awesome thing I have seen this entire year! And I've paid to see movies!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she wanted to do it so badly to begin with. She's very brave. That was awesome. Mutton bustin is by far one of my favorite events but the Cody Nite Rodeo does not feature it. She can brag about that when she's 50 and it will still be cool.
ReplyDeleteYES!!! That is hands-down my FAVORITE part of every rodeo! I remember being in Idaho Falls with my roommate, visiting her grandma, and seeing this at the rodeo for the first time...it cracked me up for YEARS. No joke. I'm so glad I know I mutton buster now! YAY LIZA!!
ReplyDeletePS: Your word verification is "ceaphog." Just thought that was a good one ;)
Your Liza is amazing! What a brave little girl! I'm so glad you have that on video and that you were kind enough to share it with us. :)
ReplyDeleteToo fun! All they can do at the Cody Night Rodeo is chase a calf and try to grab the ribbon on the end of its tail.
ReplyDeletenice!!! i love that she had the guts to do it, even after watching videos on youtube. hope to get to know her better in a month!! :) fun that we'll get to see each other.
ReplyDeleteGo Liza! I didn't know you had a blog. I linked to it from Jodie's. You do a great job and it is a delightful and entertaining read!
ReplyDeletethat was freaking AMAZING!!! what a rock star of a girl she is. it is like bull riding but for little kids. thanks for posting that. it made my day brighter! :)
ReplyDeleteWow thanks for the great laugh LIZA! She looked like she had fun! Missed you this weekend but see you very soon!!
ReplyDeleteLoved catching up on your blog. What a fun thing (Muttin' bustin') . She's so brave. Love the "music truck" fib. Wish I would have known that one. Too late now! Love the apple pie, lemonade stand and butte pics. Fun times at the Twiss house!
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't just funny, that was HILARIOUS!! Liza has inspired Owen to give mutton bustin' a try. Although I suspect he would not be as brave when it came down to it. Who knew sheep could be so fast?!
ReplyDeleteOh that is DELIGHTFUL. Got my heart racing and everything. What a champ! Go Liza!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that looked like SOooOoo much fun!! Go Liza!!
